- Alaska, to Nome, Alaska,
- is one of the most difficult
- races in sports. It is called
- the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Susan
- Butcher has won it four times!

- The Iditarod takes place every March. To
- compete, racers and their dogs must cross
- two mountain ranges, ice-covered rivers, the
- frozen Bering Sea, and a burned-out forest
- covered with stumps. They must brave
- temperatures that reach 50 degrees below
- zero and winds that reach 140 miles per
- hour.
